The Mythical "Off-Season"

December 12, 2011

I hear a lot of people taking about an "off-season" like they're black bears headed to hibernation for six months!? For pro athletes and political pundits, sure, there's a fairly clearly defined off-season. (Although in the case of the latter, I wish it was WAAAY longer, but I digress…) So what about for the rest of us?

As someone who rides dirt/street motorcycles and bicycles, fly fishes, dives, shoots bows and firearms, and skis, I can find something fun to do all year 'round! For the moment, although my trout streams are closed and it's a little chilly for street
motorcycles, I still have a lot of options.

What do you do in the your "off-season" at your locale? Are you stuck indoors for the winter?

This came up after a discussion with a friend (who is in California as I am, no less!) When she can't fly fish, she practically hibernates from November through April!?

Off season? Whaaaaat? Crazy talk :)

Like you, I can always find something to do. We don't store our bikes and end up riding them year round assuming there isn't a layer of ice on the road. I love being outside in the winter time.

This morning, apparently coming down with some evil winter affliction, like +Chris Downing, I'd like to fly south!

Rode last Sunday, and it was 26 degrees out when we left.Had a great time.Have ridden down into the teens as long as there isn't any ice on the road. Now dirt bikes, that's a different matter. It's never to cold for the dirt.
